To produce electricity and heat in steam turbines we use a combustion process. Fuels for that are coal, oil, gas and biomass. The energy resulting from the combustion of above mentioned fuels is converted into mechanical energy transferred by further elements of the turbine set to generator.
Steam turbines have advantages like high efficiency, an even rotary motion, relatively small size and weight and cost due to high power gain. They are used also in nuclear power plants, large steamships, aircraft carriers and submarines.
Due to the large number of devices and installations accompanying steam turbines, their inventory and condition control is very important. It also significantly affects work safety due to the presence of high pressures and temperatures accompanying the operation of steam turbines.
